Flexible working hours

We provide a scheme of flexible working hours to most staff - aimed at encouraging people to work more efficiently without reducing the number of hours worked. Participation in the scheme is on the understanding that everyone co-operates to ensure levels of service and efficiency are maintained at a high standard. Generally, Indoor staff work within a two week flex time cycle; Outdoor staff work with a rostered day off every two weeks; and Childcare staff work within a three week flex time cycle.


Generous leave entitlements

  • Annual Leave: 4 weeks granted at the end of each 12 months of service.
  • Sick Leave: 3 weeks per annum (cumulative) with conditions applying to its use.
  • Long Service Leave: 6.5 weeks granted after 5 years, a further 6.5 weeks after each subsequent 5 years. After 15 years granted at 2.2 weeks per year
  • Carers Leave: Available under the award.
  • Parental Leave: up to 18 weeks parental leave for eligible employees
  • There is the ability to transfer entitlements of accumulated benefits from another Council (conditions apply)



Manly Council has over 12 different site locations that employees are based in.  The three main sites are:

  • Town Hall located at 1 Belgrave Street, Manly.  Situated 1 minute away from the main transport hub of buses and ferries.
  • Balgowlah Depot located at 46-48 Balgowlah Road, Balgowlah.  
  • Manly Library building located at Market Lane, Manly.  Situated in the heart of the CBD and adjacent to the Whilster Street car park.

We have a strong safety culture at Manly Council and aim to be injury free at work and always get you home safely.



We believe that happy staff are productive staff, and happiness starts in the home. Therefore as an organisation we do our best to support and promote a work-life balance.

We frequently run health and wellbeing programs such as Weight Watchers and walking groups.  We offer discount passes to the Andrew Boy Charlton Swim Centre.  Access to the Employee Assistance Program is also available which provides professional counsellors to help staff should they need professional advice on issues that may affect their health, work or performance.


Family is Important
